Default The Large White Cube (picture)

Ok so i was looking for a group in tombs when i saw this, a elementalist with a giant white cube on his head, i thought something was still loading at first but then it never went away so i took a screenshot.

My guess is its some graphical glitch on my computer and i later saw a second guy with the same thing on his head. So, im assuming its one of the elementalists head pieces that wont load the graphic maybe??

What do you think?

I think it has something to do with the model for the hat having a problem... I remember getting this once for the Kurzick quest involving running some item from one side of the map to the other in the preview event. For me it just cleared up after some time... reinstall might help though.

Having had this happen, long time a go, my best suggestion is to re-install.
As I recall it has something to do with the dat file being in need of repair.

Try updating your video drivers first, or reinstall those if they are up to date. Also, theres a defrag program somewhere on these forums for GW, name starts with C, cant remember it now, but D/L it, and defrag GW, then try it again. If all else fails, then reinstall.

P.S. sorry for wrong board

That looks sooooooo fake, but i beleive it happened. Maybe it's that under construction thing, that causes copious amounts of white space to replace your armour or weapon.

Had it once happen to me, too. "The invasion of the cubeheads". Did a "repair install", fixed it back then.

I just reinstalled on my box last week and I got that on a few armor pieces, but I went afk and let the background download run for a while and when I came back, they were all gone and the proper armor was showing.

This happened to me but not only with hats with full characters. The best thing to do is to closed Gw open it again. If u get a data repair message when u try to load the login screen, the problem will fix itself. Otherwise reinstalling the game would be your best option. If u still get that problem periodically u should pdate your drivers.

my friend has this problem. Ive tried uninstalling guildwars and installing it using both the original cd AND the website's client.

Some interesting finds on this matter using two similar computers:

both have 1gb ram, both have an agp x1600pro 512mb gpu, both have processors that exceed minimum specs. I personally stopped updating my ATI stuff at 6.4 and my computer is much happier this way (little something I picked up from my short time playing oblivion)

my computer runs the win xp and have never had this issue, my friend runs on win 2000 and definately has white boxes. Is it possible that it has to do with the OS?

i have access to all hats except for the xmas 05 hats, and the cube does not appear on any of them. It seems that the cubes are on just about every paragon and half of every elementalist. I have not seen anything that would link this to a festival hat, the only things I see are paragons and eles with cube heads.

I logged my account onto dude's computer and went through making nightfall pvp toons (he doesnt have nightfall) and I could not get the box to show on my own character's head for either class using any of the pvp headgears.

its late, so how bout I leave it at this:

If you are having the White Cube problem, please include the following information with your posts to help the rest of us figure this out....

1. your operating system
2. your graphics card, and your driver version
3. check your festival hats, even tho my personal experience shows that it is not related to festival hats, and pay attention to the Class of each character that has the Box. If anyone has a non-paragon, or non-ele with this problem please report it.

Its kind of awkward to pm someone out of nowhere and ask them why their head is a big white box... but if someone with some patience wanted to make a few inquiries as simple as "oO wut kind of hat r u wearing thats cool lookin??!" or whatever, I think we could start to narrow this down.

well i thought i tried everything, and was ready to throw out my computer, but then i found my solution:

go to your gw icon,

right click,

go to properties,

it should say "C:/program files/guild wars/gw.exe",

then add -image to it so that it should read,

"C:/program files/guild wars/gw.exe" -image

i hope this works for everyone out there that has had this problem!

Ok, I have the same problem on the same thing.. .some elementalists. I'm guessing doing the -image is the only fix...

Also, my title screen runs like shit now at 3-4 FPS - never had this problem before.

My nephew is getting this same problem on a newly built Vista computer but we suspect it's a driver issue because Vista justs blue screens(yes it still does it) when he installs the official Radeon drivers. It seems to be factions Ele fire head pieces and weapons like koosuns staff don't even show and also some Para head pieces. Now i had this problem a few monthes ago when whole characters where white blocks did several reinstalls even reinstalled windows and it still did it.I run several tests and found my memory was faulty, put some new stuff in and it was ok for a month or so then started doing it again.Tested the memory, gone again so came to the conclusion the mobo was faulty.I did read somewhere that GW is very sensitive to faulty hardware so anyone who cant get rid of the problem wants get there machine checked.

Every time this has happened to me it's because the .dat file has got corrupted or is missing some data. Downloaded everything again, problem solved. Also, it's happened to me at work, so I just bring my .dat file in from home on a cd and stick on my work comp, and that works.

Bit of a pain to download it all, but it works for me. Luckily I haven't had to do it that often.
